Tavistock AFC 2

Cullompton Rangers 2

THE Lambs must still be wandering how they did not take all three points from this game, having dominated for long periods. They played some excellent football and created a number of opportunities to score. Only some really good goal keeping by Moore, the wood work, lady luck, and poor finishing denied the Lambs victory.

The first fifteen minutes were fairly even, but it was the Lambs that then took control, and in the 18th minute a fine move between Dave Hallett and Lee Blatchford found Dan Pethick on the edge of the penalty area, his tremendous shot from 20 yards was brilliantly pushed around the post by Moore. Two minute later Moore produced another fine save to deny James his first goal for the club.

Garry Williams then broke down the left flank and produced a fine cross into the penalty , but unfortunately neither Dan Pethick or Chris Head could make contact. Martyn Sullivan back in the side after holiday produced a bit of magic after combining with Garr Williams, he beat two players before putting a perfect low cross between the visitors defence and the keeper, both the on rushing Dan Pethick and Chris Head were only inches away from making contact inside the six yard box.

In the 30th minute against the run of play the visitors took the lead, when Alex Greening took full advantage when a fortunate deflection, allowed him to nip in front of Stefan Kelly and fire low into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

The Lambs continued to control the middle of the park with Dave Hallett, Lee Blatchford, and John James, prompting attack after attack, but the visitors defence held firm until the interval.

The second period took much of the pattern of the first, with the home team having the largest share of possession. Dan Pethick went close twice, then the same player put Chris Head in on goal, but his shot was well saved by Moore.

In the 54th minute the Lambs equalised, when some great mid field play between Dave Hallett and Lee Blatchford resulted in the latter finding Chris Head at the far post, who calmly stroked the ball home from 10 yards. Within two minutes the home side took the lead as Martyn Sullivan who was having a very good game, weaved his way pass two defender before slotting the ball low into the corner of the visitor's goal.

Tavistock continued to dominate the game and were unlucky when a thunderous shot from John James hit the cross bar with Moore clearly beaten. The Lambs had more chances to increase their lead.

They forced corner after corner, but with some luck, and some wild finishing, the visitors' defence managed to keep them at bay.

Then with six minutes remaining the visitors equalised, when Matt Harvey ran on to a through ball, with Mike Arscot caught out, fired low past Andy Meeds from 15 yards with the ball going in off the post.

The Lambs still had opportunities to take the lead but it was not to be, Moore pulled off two very good saves to deny the home side.

The football produced by the Lambs was very good, and if they can turn this into goals then they will have a very good season.

The reserves had an excellent win at St Stephen Borough by 3 goals to one.
