IN giving her opinions in the Times (January 17) Cllr Warne shows very clearly all the reasons why one should not vote for an elected mayor.
For a start, she mentions only three options. I was fortunate in being sent all the appropriate literature, with the chance to give my opinion.
As I understand it, taking the four options separately, the results of that choice were option four had the most votes.
Taken together options one, two and three were slightly less than those for option four. The powers-that-be decided on a referendum, even though one had not even been requested by an appropriate number of the public. Democracy?
I have lived and worked in more than one country on the Continent. Elected mayors were a wonderful chance for every kind of corruption and the old boy network.
It would also give great and unfair power to the person chosen.
I believe in democracy. The government-inspired 'requirement' is the very opposite of that situation.
No to an elected mayor, and so I shall vote.
