THE Lambs slipped to fourth position with this narrow defeat at the hands of Newquay.

Just like last year they came to Langsford Park and won after the Lambs had had a good start to the season.

The Lambs never got going in any department with too many players having an off day.

They tried to play football throughout the game passing the ball around in an attempt to open up the Peppermints defence but they remained wrapped up for all the game.

When they did get undone it was keeper Wilton who saved a penalty to give them a clean sheet and victory.

Tavistock went behind after 13 minutes when two headed clearances were only partially cleared and it allowed Chris Revell to head home at the near post from a Jake Harrington cross.

The Lambs could have gone ahead earlier had Craig Hodge's header gone the right side of the post from a Lee Cansfield free kick.

Andy Meeds made two great saves before the interval to prevent Newquay going further ahead before half time.

Tavistock made a double substitution at half time in an attempt to turn around the fortunes with Steve Shaw making his first team debut for the season replacing new signing George Pitts from Crediton and Rob Hawkins replacing Tony Cusack.

Hawkins run into the area after ten minutes of the second saw the Lambs awarded a penalty.

The feeling around the ground was "here we go' but Cansfield's shot was pushed onto the post by keeper Wilton and Tavistock's chance disappeared.

Wayne Crow came on shortly afterwards and started to cause a few problems but when he got to the by-line and crossed there was no one on the end of it to put the ball into the net.

A very disappointing display from the Lambs.

You would not think it was the same team that turned out the previous Wednesday.

Putting it all in perspective, had the Lambs converted both their penalties against Newquay and Torpoint, they would still be at the top of the table instead of down in fourth. There is no fixture for them this weekend and it will give them a chance for a training session to include penalty kick practice and re value the situation before taking the long trip to Porthleven on Sept 23.

Team, Andy Meeds, John Gosling sub (Wayne Crow 60m), Dean Tongue, Lee Beer, Craig Hodge, George Pitts sub (Steve Shaw 45m), Mark Wall, Tony Cusack sub (Rob Hawkins 45m), Lee Cansfield, Chris Kiely, Danny McTighe.

Forthcoming Fixture: Sat P & D Premier Plymstock Utd v Tavistock away KO 2 30pm.
