Duchy Premier Gunnislake 2 St Newlyn East 0 GUNNISLAKE completed their home league fixtures of the current campaign with this excellent victory. The hosts arrived knowing only a win would do to keep them in touch with the top two. Saints started the better and had most of the play in the opening 15 minutes. But they were unable to break Gunnislake down and produce any telling efforts on goal. The hosts gradually got more in to the game and enjoyed a greater share of the attacking play in the remainder of the half. The closest they came to scoring was when Allan Doidge shot just over before Matt Avery when through saw his effort go wide of the goal. The second half followed an identical pattern except that Gunnislake converted twice in this period. Saints had the better of the opening exchanges but Gunnislake came more into the match. On 65 minutes the hosts opened the scoring when a Stef Kelly centre enabled Stuart Wakenshaw to score from close range. Avery had a low effort well saved. A similar strike from a Saints attacker saw Andy Brenton make a good stop. Ten minutes from time Saints missed a penalty. With minutes remaining, Gunnislake secured the win thanks to a fine individual goal from Kelly. The youngster received a crossfield Wakenshaw pass and then evaded three challenges before finishing calmly. This Saturday Gunnislake visit table-toppers St Columb Major for a 2pm kick-off.
