THIS quarter final produced a fine game with the two sets of forwards well matched, but Tavistock had the edge in the backs.

Although the home forwards enjoyed periods of possession and pressure, Tavistock's speedy backs had three tries on the scoreboard by the 20th minute. Centre Ewen Smith bagged the first, after a good break by number eight, Jude Rotton. Right wing Nick Lane scored the next two, both on the end of good handling moves.

Tavistock's Martin Credicott converted two of the scores to put the visitors 19-0 in front. The remainder of the first half was fairly even, although the home flyhalf, Alex Buckley, broke through for a well executed, converted try just before the interval.

The home team enjoyed good periods of possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half, but the only score in this period was a penalty from Credicott. Tavistock quietly began to take control of the forward exchanges and scored two further tries in the 64th and 66th minutes — the first after a quick break from replacement flyhalf Jake Luffman, ended with Nick Lane going over for his third try. Then a strong drive from flanker, Pete Davis, followed by a backs' move led to centre Haydon Biddle bursting through the DHSOB's defence.

Four minutes later another sweeping handling move presented Nick Lane with his fourth try. Credicott converted the last two tries.

Although by now well beaten, the home team had the last word with try from a rumble from their pack.

Tavistock front row of John Wakem; Will Tomkins; Marc Kerswill and replacement, Jason Ward, scrummaged well against their far heavier opponents. Darren Cole and James Bruna were prominent in the lineout and the loose. Scrumhalf, Lee Greatrex kept his backline moving well.

Tavistock will now play Plymouth Barbarians in the semi-final.
