I AM writing with regard to your article on the closure of the 'ring-road' on Dartmoor near Okehampton.

As a regular walker with an Okehampton group I do not see that there is a need to be able to drive all the way round a six-mile loop. Access that is provided with parking will be totally adequate.

On occasions when I have walked the ring-road after quite a 'busy' day of vehicular traffic I have been saddened by the sight of several squashed frogs and beetles.

I think the people who wish to risk driving through fords can run the risk of getting stuck, and this could mean rescue groups setting out to help people who really should not have ventured out into our beautiful wilderness in the first place.
