Yeovil and Sherborne 4
Tavistock firsts 1
THIS week the Tavistock first hockey team travelled up-country to play Yeovil and Sherborne.
The visitors' concentration was not all it could have been during the early minutes of the game, and a poor pass across the field from Carr resulted in the concession of an early goal.
Over the next ten minutes Tavistock fought hard in an attempt to regain control of the midfield. Marchant, Lovett and Edwards moved the ball with pace, with some good pivoting from Edwards. Despite their best efforts, possession was lost far too often allowing the home team to break away.
Using their pace to overcome the beleaguered Tavistock defence, the opposition scored a further two goals in rather quick succession.
Towards the end of the first half one final goal for Yeovil and Sherborne came from a successful short corner which Mingo and the defensive line were unable to prevent.
Determined not to dwell on mistakes made in the first half, Tavistock managed to compose itself and some good passing helped to 'even the odds' throughout the second half. Eventually this hard work was rewarded by a goal from Josh Cowen.
Furthermore, tighter marking by Woods and Carr flustered the Yeovil/Sherborne attack enough to prevent any more goals being scored.
Despite defeat the Tavistock should be commended for their sustained effort and abundant perseverance throughout.
