Duchy 5

TAVISTOCK A men travelled away this week to league leaders Duchy in Camborne. Last minute injuries left the team with just 10 players, but spirits were high.

Tavistock were awarded a penalty flick after just one minutes, and Josh Reynolds confidently placed the flick in the bottom left corner to create an unexpected lead.

Duchy showed why they lead the league, though, by counter attacking immediately and three minutes later they slipped a ball through a slender gap under keeper Neil Kelly's pads to equalise.

This fast and furious start characterised the rest of the game. 15 minutes in Duchy used their extra player to overload the Tavistock defence and struck a confident second goal.

Both keepers were busy until half time, however.

Kelly came out of his goal regularly for Tavistock, confounding attackers by meeting them on the edge on the edge of his 'D' and easing the pressure.

Tavistock came out just as hard for the second half. Needing to close the goal gap if they were to salvage a point, Tavistock pushed hard from the start but this left them exposed at the back and Duchy took their chances — scoring two good field goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

A Duchy penalty corner resulted in a flick that Kelly covered brilliantly and palmed away, only to see it slip just inside the side netting.

Tavistock never gave up and continued to attack. Bob Carr held things together in the centre with the other midfielders. He was pipped to 'man of the match' by centre back

Shane Lovett for Tavistock, who was outstanding and worked fiercely hard through the entire match. Despite the 5-1 result Tavistock came away with their heads held high and the respect of the Duchy side.
