A TEAM from search and rescue charity RAPID-UK stood down on Monday after the Indonesian government made no request for specialist search and rescue assistance from the UK. The charity, with its registered headquarters in Okehampton, had been on standby following the earthquake on the Indonesian island of Java, RAPID-UK and the British government made formal offers of assistance to the Indonesian government during the hours following the earthquake, which killed more than 4,500 people. RAPID-UK has previously worked in the aftermath of quakes in Iran, Armenia, Georgia, the Philippines, Russia, and Turkey.
