Ashmoor Academicals 2 Tavistock Tigers 0 TAVISTOCK had the incentive of knowing that if they beat Ashmoor they would most likely finish second in the league. But the match went against the Tigers? hopes. Tigers started the better of the two sides, but despite strong work from Alford and Doney were unable to capitalise. Ashmoor had their chances too and took the lead after Tigers failed to clear the ball, keeper Osborne getting a touch but was unable to stop the ball crossing the line. Tavistock responded well to this and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Armstrong going close on a couple of occasions. Tavistock?s best chance came from a move started by Eadie who allowed Firth to cross to Miller who put the ball agonisingly wide of the far post. Just before half-time, Ashmoor grabbed a second and decisive goal, as their attacker pounced on a loose ball to steer the ball home from the edge of the D. The second half saw both teams go in search of goals but Tigers? defence of Viggers, Costello and George remained firm, though Evans from midfield at one point had to save a certain goal by clearing off the line. Alford had Tavistock?s best chance of the second half but his acute shot was well saved by the Ashmoor keeper. Despite giving their all, Tavistock were unable to gain a consolation goal. It now seems likely Tigers will achieve a third place finish.
