BIDEFORD's annual 10K road race attracted 549 entrants this year. Among them were nine runners from Tavistock Athletics Club.

There were strong winds throughout the race and the rain came just before the start. But despite the weather club members achieved some very good results.

Sally Lipscombe, competing in her first race did really well. She was supported by Ann Woodhouse who finished third in her age category.

First Club member to finish was Brennan Townshend in 13th position followed five seconds later by Neil Barkell, gaining a personal best and 15th place.

Jo Meek coming back from injury had a superb race, being first lady to finish in 27th position.

Keith Bowles ran hard to knock very nearly two minutes off his 2008 Bideford10k time, with Tony Shearer close behind.

Andy and Sheila Houghton both gained PBs the latter coming third in her F55 age group.

Finishing times were as follows: Brennan Townshend 35.49, Neil Barkell 35.54, Jo Meek 37.03, Keith Bowles 46.50, Tony Shearer 47.09, Andy Houghton 48.46, Sheila Houghton 52.39, Ann Woodhouse 1.00.37 and Sally Lipscombe 1.00.46.
