A MOTHER'S day service was held in St James Church, taken by the Rev Carolyn Broadribb. Organist was Mrs Marjorie Cleverdon. 'Farms for City children Nethercott' and children from the Methodist Chapel and friends from other churches attended. Readers were Mrs Julie Thorne, Mrs Jane Feaver, Ralph Gent and Andrew Lane. Readers for the children were Ellie Purdom and Daniel Thorne. The children presented all the ladies in the church with posies and cards. The posies were made by Mrs Joan Weeks. Children from the Methodist Chapel sang a song, accompanied by David Down. The collection was taken by Peter Banbury and Geoffrey Cleverdon and amounted to £95 for Barnardo's Homes. ST James' Church annual meeting of the parochial church council was held at West Park, and attended by the Rev Carolyn Broadribb and the churchwardens, Peter Banbury and Mrs Anne Brough, and members.
