LOOKING for a new interest, or want to take skills to a new level in the New Year?

Amateur theatre company The Tavonians will be delivering a series of theatre skills workshops, thanks to an arts grant awarded by West Devon Borough Council.

The £492 grant will help support the 12 workshops, which aim to give anyone interested in theatre a chance to learn more in a fun and enjoyable way.

Open to anyone aged between 16 and 80, from those just wanting to have a go to seasoned actors alike, there will be the chance to join in any or all of the sessions on offer.

The workshops are all being held in central Tavistock during the first three months of the New Year, on a mix of Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday daytime.

Session 1 — Creating a character. Thursday January 20, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Session 2 – Exploring physical theatre. Friday January 21, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Session 3 — Elements of directing. Saturday January 22, 10am to 12.30pm, Tavistock United Reformed Church Hall.

Session 4 — Discover your voice. Saturday January 22, 1.30pm to 4pm, Tavistock United Reformed Church Hall.

Session 5 — Page to stage. Thursday February 17, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Session 6 — Vocal adrenaline. Friday February 18, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Session 7 — Devising and improvising. Saturday February 19, 10am to 12.30pm, Tavistock United Reformed Church Hall.

Session 8 — Stagefighting. Saturday February 19, 1.30pm to 4pm, Tavistock United Reformed Church Hall.

Session 9 — Playing for laughs. Thursday March 17, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Session 10 —  Props that perform. Friday March 18, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Guide Hall, Tavistock.

Sessions 11 and 12 —  Play in a day. Saturday February 19, 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm plus a 4.30pm performance (this counts as two workshops which must be booked together), Tavistock United Reformed Church Hall.
