THERE'S definately something to catch the eye at the Tavistock Volunteer Centre this Christmas — as well as being a window opportunity for potential volunteers. The centre in King Street, which helps people to find suitable volunteering opportunities and holds information on behalf of hundreds of local groups, has a brand new window display of exciting volunteering opportunities to suit everyone. Based on the theme of the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' song, the posters have been artistically arranged by talented young local volunteer Anna Jones from Tavistock Capturing the festive spirit individual posters follow the song: 'On the first day of Christmas my true love brought for me a new batch of volunteers, two transport escorts, three youth workers, four bingo callers, five moor trees, six folk-a-laying (hedges), seven sewers sewing, eight typists typing, nine web designers, 10 riders riding, 11 festive helpers and 12 drivers driving. Anna, 22, who has just gained her Master of Science degree in political theory, said: 'I had great fun putting the display together, and I'm amazed by the enormous range of opportunities being offered here. 'You can help plant trees, call bingo, assist disabled riders, design websites or help run a special Christmas lunch and entertainment in the town, to name but a few.' Billie Burnett, the volunteer co-ordinator at the centre said: 'The window has from the start attracted attention and drawn people in to ask about volunteering.' The centre also provides advice, support and training, if required, for volunteers and voluntary and community organisations.
