FOLLOWING the success of the jogging section over the past two years, Tavistock Athletic Club is starting a new weekly group for beginners of both sexes on Tuesday April 29.
These sessions could also be useful training for ladies who want to enter the Race For Life in Plymouth on June 15.
Organiser Keith Bowles said: ?This group will be for complete novices who have done no jogging before, and those who may have done some and who want to start again. I expect that during the first few Tuesdays there will be more brisk walking than jogging. They will be eased into the running process gently and everyone?s ability will be taken into account.?
Everyone will be able to go at their pace so the group will be suitable for adults of all ages. There will be no necessity to come every week, although those who wish to improve their fitness will be encouraged to do so, and to take other exercise between Tuesdays.
Jogging is an excellent component of any fitness programme and recent research has proved that running is guaranteed to get you fitter, faster, than any other form of exercise.
With that in mind, the new group is being launched under the banner of ?Get Jogging, Get Fitter ? Enjoy Life More!?
In the hope they will provide some motivation and inspiration, here are some quotes from members of the jogging groups: ?it keeps me fit, slimmer and healthy ? and I?ve met a great bunch of people?, ?running as part of a group keeps you motivated to get out there?, ?I feel great afterwards and it?s the best way I?ve found of keeping my weight reasonable?.
Those who wish to move up into the existing jogging groups can do so at any time, but the new group will evolve at the end of the summer into the third and slowest of the groups.
The new group will meet on Tuesdays at 6.15pm at Tavistock College (in the classroom opposite the main entrance, starting on April 29.
