MONTHLY meetings are to be held in Okehampton for mums and mums-to-be to share their experiences, problems or worries about breast feeding.
Barbara Childs has recently moved into the area and is setting up a support group for anyone who is breast feeding or is thinking about it.
The group will meet every second Friday of each month at the Riverside Centre at Castle Hospital and the first session will be on February 11.
Mrs Childs said she had help from a group in Plymouth when she had her first son and enjoyed breast feeding so much that she wanted to help other people.
'I used to travel from Exeter to Plymouth to attend the group,' she said. 'If there is no support it is quite easy to feel you are on your own.
'There are a lot of benefits to breast feeding but it is unusual to find mothers doing it after the first few months.'
The Okehampton group will be part of the La Leche League support groups, which have been in existence in the UK for 25 years and in America for 40 years. La Leche is Spanish for the milk.
Anyone interested can phone Mrs Childs on 01837 55805 or go along to the first session between 10.30am and noon on February 11.
