HATHERLEIGH mayor Gary Bush joined young people for the opening of the town's new bus shelter. Some 25 young people, led by volunteer youth workers Tony Chase and Paul Coward, were awarded £475 from Devon and Cornwall Police to redecorate the shelter. Since August, they have repainted the inside and outside and filled the roof panels with a colourful collage of flying objects. The theme depicts night and day in the town and there is a scene of the carnival. A chalk-board for messages and a notice board for Hatherleigh events has been added for community use. The town's famous flaming tar barrels are depicted by a large mosaic designed and made by the young people, all aged between eleven and 19. Picture by Ian Snell
