TAVISTOCK Camera Club begins its 2011/12 season with a meeting at Tavistock United Reformed Church, Russell Street, Tavistock on September 7 at 7.30pm.

This will consist of a competition opening shot' in which members are invited to enter one mounted picture, preferably to have been taken during the summer break, to be judged by members on the evening.

Chairperson June Wildman said: 'The evening is designed to let members enjoy other people's photography and to talk to each other about what has been happening since last season.

'New members are always very welcome but this first evening will give them a chance to see what the club is all about. It will also be a chance to ask questions from our friendly committee. Members are always happy to help and to exchange information.'

The club has a varied programme – a mixture of competitions, speakers and workshops throughout the year together with club photographic outings later in the season, when the light permits.

'We will be running another beginners course on photography in February so that all those given new cameras at Christmas can learn how to use them!'
