THE doors to the highly anticipated, new rest facility for older people in Tavistock opened this morning, after more than seven years since the original Old Folks’ Rest Room closed.
The new rest room, named ’Rest A While’ — as voted for by the community, opened after three months of redecorating and building work at its new premises at the East End Stores in the pannier market surround.
The facility is being run by Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) and supported by Tavistock Town Council and provides a venue for older people in the town to rest, take a break from shopping or meet with friends.
Rest A While replaces the former rest room, known as the Old Folks’ Rest Room, which was located on Duke Street and closed to the public in 2009, having been there for more than 50 years.
