TWO county councillors from the Tavistock area have been appointed to senior positions on the authority. Tavistock Rural member Roy Connelly was made an executive member for community and safety at the annual meeting in Exeter, and Yelverton Rural?s Alan Hosking was appointed chairman of the council?s farm estate committee. Both men are Liberal Democrat members ? the party took control of the county council at last month?s elections. Cllr Connelly said his experiences as member for Tavistock had been invaluable for his new role. ?It has kept me in touch with real concerns and meant that I have been able to focus on delivering appropriate benefits for our community.? Looking forward to the new position, Cllr Connelly said he would continue to work closely with the Tavistock community ?despite now operating on a Devon-wide platform of community improvement as an ambassador to the town.? Cllr Hosking said his time as chairman of an environmental health committee and membership of several environmental groups, including Dartmoor Preservation Association, showed his commitment to achieving ?sustainable economic development in agriculture and the preservation of the rural economy and way of life.? He also said he looked forward to working closely with parish councils and ?building bridges? between the county and local communities.
