Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 14 Exeter 3rd XI 0 WITH a couple of regular squad players absent from the team some of the Tavistock players had to play out of position in this non-league match. However this appeared no problem as Tavistock had full possession of the ball. Laura Stapleton and Jo Gaspar worked well through the middle and were able to send the ball out to the fast wing play of Robynne Honey and new player Hannah Gray. These two wingers kept the opposition working hard at all times. Sarah Barratt and Laura Armstrong linked with each other extremely well and set up many of the goals scored. With the team being in such a strong position throughout the whole match it allowed for some good set pieces to be played out on the pitch. Fiona Dunn, Laura Stapleton and Julia Firth ran circles around the opposition before releasing the ball to the next player. Lisa Butler worked well in defence and made some good interceptions. The brief time that the opposition did approach Tavistock?s defensive 25yd area, good calls from keeper, Bex Creasy, allowed Dunn and Butler to pick up spare players. Tavistock were awarded numerous short corners and good ball fed out from Armstrong allowed Tavistock to score a number of times. Judy Miller opened up gaps for Honey and Armstrong to run into. A good goal came from Sarah Barratt who took a penalty flick which was awarded to Tavistock. Barratt put it convincingly past the keeper. The other memorable goal came as the last goal of the match from captain, Fiona Dunn, who as a defender for Tavistock scored her first goal ever for the squad! Goals were scored by: Laura Armstrong 1, Judy Miller 2, Jo Gaspar 2, Laura Stapleton 1, Robynne Honey 2, Sarah Barratt 2, Hannah Gray 2, Julia Firth 1, Fiona Dunn 1. Player of The Match: Lisa Butler. This week Tavistock play St Austell 2nds X1 at Bickleigh Barracks at 12.30pm.
