AN award-winning Chagford restaurant has been sold to the owner of a Tavistock hotel for an undisclosed sum. Helena King, who owns Brown?s Hotel, has purchased 22 Mill Street which is featured in the current Michelin Guide. It was sold on behalf of chef-proprietor Duncan Walker, who is taking a break from the restaurant trade after ten years of ownership. The property includes a 22-cover restaurant, a lounge, two en suite letting bedrooms and a recently added owner?s apartment. Restaurant agents Christie and Co sought offers in the region of £455,000 for the freehold interest. Brown?s Hotel was last year voted ?Town Hotel of the Year? by the Good Hotel Guide. Martin Blacoe of Christie and Co said: ?The new owner and head chef John Hooker will continue to trade the restaurant in its current, successful format, serving fine modern cuisine using quality, locally sourced ingredients. ?We wish Miss King every success with her new business venture.?
