A THRIVING new wildlife group is set to be given a permanent name this weekend, when the its next meeting takes place on Saturday.

The Roadford junior wildlife group now has more than 40 youngsters involved in activities organised by the South West Lakes Trust's educational officer Elizabeth Eagle.

At Saturday's meeting members will be able to learn about animal homes, make their own bat boxes and tree-creeper homes — as well as officially choosing a name for their group.

Other youngsters working with the Trust are the pupils of Ashwater School, who are studying with biodiversity officer Emma Kinghorn.

The year 6 pupils are helping to improve the appearance and biodiversity of the nature pond adjacent to the new cycle track at the lake.

Emma said: 'I am very pleased to be involved with this exciting pond project and will be liaising with the Westcountry Rivers Trust.

'We will be posting progress reports on the noticeboard at Roadford tea room, and on the Trust web site.'

Anyone interested in joining the Roadford junior wildlife group, or in the biodiversity project, should contact the South West Lake Trust headquarters on 01837 871565.
