TAVISTOCK?S new museum in The Courtgate has been getting the thumbs up from visitors since it was officially opened over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Complimentary comments have been made in the visitors? book and there has been a good attendance through the doors following the museum?s relocation from Drake Road.

Chairman of the museum Geoffrey Bassington said people seemed to be pleased with the facility, which has created a lot more space for the exhibits.

Two rooms ? named after Robin Fenner and Sue Davies who have both been instrumental in Tavistock?s museum over the years ? will house regular exhibitions, and also photo archive and artefacts relating to the town?s history.

A changing exhibition of photographs by the late Jim Thorrington continues to be very popular.

The museum has been loaned in the region of 40,000 negatives by Jim?s wife Shirley which are being scanned and put on CD, copies of which will be available at a future date.
