FOUR new members were co-opted to Tavistock Town Council last week, following a lack of candidates to stand during the local elections last month. Eight individuals had applied to join the council ? two for the seat on town?s south west ward, six for the three north ward seats. Originally, three people had applied for both wards, but councillors disliked this approach and asked them to choose one or other ward. Joining the council on the south west ward is Ian Jennings, a former Royal Naval petty officer. Mr Jennings is an Independent. The new councillors on the north ward are Harry Smith, who has served on the town council previously and was deputy mayor in 1998/99; Isla McPhie-Janjanin, who also is a member of West Devon Borough Council and Ted Sanders, who has been a postman in West Devon for 18 years.
