TAVISTOCK resident Adam Fleet has been appointed as the new BID (Business Improvement District) manager for the town.

Mr Fleet will be known to many people in Tavistock as the driving force behind the Tavistock Enterprise Hub and he is also involved both with TaVi Network and the Tavistock Chamber of Commerce.

He has taken over the role from Chris Penberthy, who resigned the post because of the pressure of work when he was appointed to the cabinet of Plymouth City Council.

Mr Fleet is enthusiastic about his new position.

He said: 'I am excited to have been given the opportunity through my appointment as BID manager to work with businesses within the Business Improvement District to help them save money, increase business and improve the environment.

'I have personally experienced the wealth of passion and drive within the community to enhance our town centre and I am proud to be part of that.'

The BID (Business Improvement District) was set up in Tavistock last year and involves town centre businesses paying a levy on their business rates in order to raise funds to enhance the town.

Over the next three years, BID aims to raise around £60,000 annually to promote the town, enhance the environment and address issues such as car parking.

Mr Fleet was chosen from a shortlist of three candidates after a rigorous interview process.

BID chairman Phil Biggin said: 'We are absolutely delighted to have Adam on board.

'He is already heavily involved in the regeneration of Tavistock through his existing work with the Tavistock Enterprise Hub and TaVi Network and has worked with the BID in putting forward both the original and, very recently, a revised bid for funding for the town through the Portas Project.

'We are all sure he will bring new energy and dynamism in order to help the BID provide what it set out to do.'

Adam said he was keen to make contact with BID members as quickly as possible.
