A NEW chief executive has started at the Dartmoor National Park Authority, following the retirement of Dr Nick Atkinson after 33 years. Dr Kevin Bishop took up his post on October 1. He was born in the West Country, and has worked in Wales for the last 17 years, most recently as director for environment and regeneration at the Welsh Local Government Association. He has a degree in geography, an advanced diploma in environmental planning and a PhD in land management. Dr Bishop is a member of the world commission for protected areas and has undertaken a number of research projects on such areas. He said: ?I am looking forward to the challenge of being the new chief executive for Dartmoor National Park Authority ? it is my dream job but I also realise that I have to turn that dream into a reality. ?My aim is to ensure that the national park authority helps to maintain the national park as a living landscape where people and nature exist in harmony and where there is a positive relationship between landscape and livelihood.?
