THE first phase of the refurbishment of Sticklepath Village Hall is due to be completed at the end of the month.

According to Jeffery and Pengelly, building contractors for the project, Tuesday, September 30, should see the completion of phase one of the initiative.

In addition to the back lane wing renovation, new windows will shortly be fitted on the front of the Victorian building.

The redecorated village hall will be available for hire by individuals and groups, with effect from Wednesday, October 1. The facility will then be able to offer amenities such as a redecorated hall, modern kitchen and improved lavatories.

However, to ensure the first phase is completed on time, there are still some outstanding works to be done by volunteer residents within the next few weeks. This work includes painting of the renovated area as well as the toilets.

Phases two and three of the hall improvements are now at the planning stage. But in order to accomplish the entire programme, more money is needed and fund-raising efforts are therefore continuing.

The village hall committee is especially grateful to the organisers of the annual Sticklepath Flower Show and Paul and Sue Jones of the Taw River Inn.

The flower show again did stalwart work in raising an amazing £450 for village hall funds, while Paul and Sue?s barbecue

raised £415.

An event to celebrate the completion of phase one of the project will be held in the village hall on Saturday, October 18.

The renovated wing will be on show and its name will be announced on the day. It will also be a chance to say thank you to everyone who has supported the refurbishment of Sticklepath?s hall.

In addition, the village hall committee will be on hand to explain the objectives of phases two and three.

The project to refurbish the village hall, originally built in 1898, was made possible thanks to large grants secured from West Devon Borough Council, Devon Community Council, Dartmoor National Park and the EX20 Lottery earlier this year.
