THE Spooner?s and West Dartmoor Hunt Show was reborn on May 1 at its new location in Bickham Park, Roborough, by kind permission of the Maristow Estate, after a year in abeyance. There was a record attendance and some high quality competition. The weather held off for the previous couple of days and the ground, although soft, was not too punishing. Miss Emma Edwards had a busy day judging the ridden hunters with large entries in every class. Diamond White shown by H Cooper was named as champion in this arena. The Dartmoor hill pony classes were judged by Mrs M Rogers and the show ponies by Karen Whitell. The pony championship was won by L Hendy on Sheldon Little Toff, who had won the best lead-rein pony and been placed third in the turn-out class. P Honey had the difficult task of judging the in-hand classes and Norman Scott judged the working hunter classes in which Miss P Wonnacott?s Soitin Duplo triumphed. The Pony Club classes were judged by Mrs Godfrey and here M Wonnacott came to the fore on Hammond?s Precious. The show jumping course was built and judged by Malcolm Norman and proved as popular as ever. The supreme championship, judged by Lady Kitson, was won by Miss Wendy Gibson?s Diamond White from Lower Haldon, ridden by H Cooper. L Hendy?s Shaldon Little Toff was reserve champion and the local championship was awarded to Tracy Veale?s Shybont Beandance.
