TAVISTOCK'S new library took a step further towards opening this week with the completion of the steel frame for the new building in Plymouth Road.
A 70-tonne mobile crane is being used to install concrete floor beams in the library and office buildings, which are already up to first floor level.
Robert Wood, area director for EBC Construction, said progress on the development had been 'smooth'.
'Residents should now be able to see the facilities taking shape,' he said.
On schedule for completion in March next year, the project is providing around 20 local jobs during construction.
As well as the purpose-built library and learning centre, the development will provide offices, ten new rented homes and a bridge over the canal to the Meadows.
