TAVISTOCK residents are being invited to have their say in the future of the town's new library.

A Friends of Tavistock Library group is being formed and local people are being invited to join in.

Moira Andrews, librarian in charge, said: 'Tavistock Library plays an important role in the life of the town.

'We are a busy, popular library and we believe we are highly valued by our users.

'However, a friends group can benefit the library, and its users, in a number of ways.'

Mrs Andrews said the group would be able to enhance local awareness of the services provided by the library, encourage practical support for developments and improvements — mainly through publicity and fundraising — and provide a forum for cultural and social events.

Mrs Andrews said: 'Friends of libraries groups are springing up in more and more parts of the country.

'They have proved a positive benefit to the libraries and communities they serve.'

The inaugural meeting of the Friends of Tavistock Library will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 16.

Anyone, whether they are a library member or not, is welcome to attend.
