A RECENTLY discovered King George VI clock at the parish hall in Bere Alston has been refurbished to commemorate the Queen?s Golden Jubilee. Bere Peninsula Jubilee Group was set up to organise events for the jubilee year with the intention of raising money to provide a new clock for the hall. But when the face of the existing clock was removed, the original King George VI coronation clock was found beneath, and it was decided to repair it, with new radio-controlled workings. The newly refurbished clock is now in place and chairman of the Jubilee Group, Phil Archer, recently presented a cheque for £1,663.77, raised during the year, to cover the cost, to Bere Ferrers Parish Council chairman, Cllr Eaon Wager. Pictured at the presentation of the cheque are Cllr Wager and Mr Archer, with members of the jubilee group and parish council. A plaque to commemorate the event, donated by Cllr Wager, was unveiled by Mr Archer.
