THE enterprising spirit of two boys means they will leave a sporting legacy behind when they leave their Tavistock junior school.

Tom Brown and Ewan Dix, both ten-years-old, started a fundraising campaign to raise enough money to buy new sports vests for St Peter’s C of E Junior School pupils to wear when they take part in sporting events for the school.

The Year 6 boys were keen to update the current kit to incorporate the latest breathable fabrics and the school’s colours. They rallied the troops at school and went along with eight friends to Morrisons for a very successful bag pack. Thanks to the generosity of the shoppers, they managed to raise £399.51 — enough to buy the new vests.

Tom and Ewan expressed their thanks to everybody who braved the children’s packing skills and donated to their cause.

They said: ‘We were blown away by how much we raised which should be enough to buy all the vests we need. We really want to thank Morrisons for allowing us the time in their store, the many members of the public who donated so generously and of course all the St Peter’s children and their supporting parents who worked so hard to help, thank you.’

The next step will be to finalise the design and place an order in time to showcase them at the start of the cross country season in the new year.
