AN important new information service is due to be unveiled in Yelverton today (Thursday), designed and built by the area?s tourism association.
The large information display board is the brainchild of Drake?s Dartmoor, the tourism group which aims to attract visitors to the area where English sailor Sir Francis Drake lived and worked.
The board includes a map of the western area of Dartmoor and points out the many visitor attractions in the area, including Drake?s old home, Buckland Abbey.
The board also lists accommodation providers and members of Drake?s Dartmoor, including pubs and tea rooms.
Stuart Fraser, vice-chairman of Drake?s Dartmoor, said: ?This board represents the latest stage of our efforts to attract more people and provide a top quality service for them when they arrive.
?Our group has already created a superb website as an invaluable information resource for people planning to visit this beautiful and fascinating area.
?We have also carried out leafleting and postcard campaigns to publicise Drake?s Dartmoor.?
Stuart said the completion of the board represented a lot of hard work, all voluntary, by the 35 members of the group.
The information board is located in the centre of Yelverton, close to the shops and parking. It was created with support from Dartmoor National Park Authority, West Devon Borough Council, Devon Small Grants Fund, Buckland Monachorum and the Barclays Regeneration Fund.
