Sidmouth 5
Okehampton Columbines 2
COLUMBINES hockey team knew they had a difficult first league game of the season against a side who came down into the division.
Okehampton showed them too much respect in the first 20 minutes and were soon 3-0 down.
Okehampton pulled themselves together and a good move set up Vicky Taylor who coolly pushed the ball past the goalkeeper.
Columbines began to put pressure on Sidmouth but were unlucky to concede another goal on half-time.
A useful half-time talk saw Okehampton come out and play the hockey of which they are capable.
Netty Collett worked tirelessly to provide an anchor in the centre of the pitch and ensured the team kept its shape. Liz Mackay at left half supplied the link between the halves and the forwards and Columbines were moving the ball round well.
Vicky Taylor scored again to give Okehampton new hope, but this was dashed ten minutes later when Sidmouth struck their fifth goal.
