THE Lions Club of Tavistock now has a new president following the handover of the chain of office at a recent social gathering of club members.
Jan Meakin was handed the chain to start her new role as president. Along with her husband Noel, Jan used to farm at Gulworthy and moved into Tavistock following Noel’s retirement just over a year ago.
Jan said she was delighted to become president of such a successful club and paid tribute to retiring president Paul German for his ‘excellent’ year, during which he not only led the club and had the honour of representing it at a reception for UK Lions at Buckingham Palace, but who also found time to marry his partner Sue.
Paul thanked the club for its support and presented appreciation awards to Lions Alan Wroath, Jeff Lea and John Dawson for their hard work throughout the year
