A RENOVATION project lasting three years has finally come to fruition at Dingle's Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton.

The 1930s fairground thrill ride, 'The Supersonic Skid', made in London in 1937, had been laid up since 1974, but since purchased by the Fairground Heritage Trust, restoration work has been carried out by a dedicated team of volunteers.

Working at weekends, the volunteers travelled to the site from as far away as Stratford on Avon, Swindon, Taunton and Truro.

To raise funds for the project, two books on fairground history were written and published by the trust.

Renovations to the ride include a new timber floor — to which thousands of rivets were applied, renewed wiring and new paintwork.

There are almost 2,000 old-style incandescent lamps on the ride, powered by a diesel generator.

With restoration now complete, the ride will now be on show at the fairground heritage centre for visitors to see.
