HELEN Dowdall has been appointed as the new town clerk of Callington to succeed Vernon Anderson.

Mrs Dowdall, who is currently an accountant with West Devon Borough Council and clerk to St Mellion Parish Council, will begin her new job in early July.

Callington portreeve Karen Gold said all four candidates for the town clerk post were very good and it was a very difficult decision to make.

Mr Anderson, who was town clerk for two years, left to take up a position with Frome Town Council.
