A NEWLY resurrected badminton club in North Tawton has received a welcome boost — thanks to the generosity of the town's previous club.
Stuart Coleman and Heather Hillman have been working together to get a new club in North Tawton Town Hall and contacted the initial instigator of the old club, Janice Thwaites, for help.
Janice said: 'I still held in the name of North Tawton an account with National Savings, with a balance of £67.50.
'This account had not been used since the demise of badminton in North Tawton in 1990.'
She said, with the passage of time, the account had grown to £206.09 which she has now donated to the new club.
'I would like all past members of our very friendly little club to know that their money has been safe all these years and is now being put to good use.
'If they are still able, I would like them to go along and support the new club when it starts,' said Janice.
Heather Hillman said the club was very grateful for the money which will be spent on new equipment.
The players will have their first club night on Thursday, June 8, with weekly meetings every Thursday after that, between 7.30pm and 10pm.
New court lines will be painted on the town hall floor tonight (Thursday) at 8pm.
Anyone who would like further information about North Tawton's new badminton club should contact Stuart Coleman on 01837 89069 (daytime).
