SUSTRANS, the National Cycle Network group has a loyal band of volunteer rangers who look after the whole of the United Kingdom Network.

Route 27 from Ilfracombe to Plymouth is no exception with the route broken up into three sections, north, mid and south Devon.

The mid group has around six to nine rangers each with a section. In Tavistock three rangers look after Gem Bridge through to Peter Tavy and then Peter Tavy to Walkhampton on Route 274.

The work includes seeing that the signage for the route is in order, keeping vegetation down, picking up litter and broken glass and reporting any damage to the route such as fallen trees.

The group is now looking for volunteers in Tavistock, Mary Tavy, Lydford, Bridestowe, Sourton and Okehampton to help maintain the routes.

If anyone is interested and would like further information, contact liaison ranger Alan Finch on 01837 52458 or 07703849407.
