Elephant?s Nest CC v West Devon Borough Council CC THE Elephant?s Nest CC have once again taken on one of their oldest rivals, West Devon Borough Council CC. The Nest, batting first, soon got into their stride with Tim Neale and Chris Miller striking the ball well until Miller was the first to go, bowled by Rolleston for 24 runs, with the total on 45. Neale went soon after for 8 after being caught by long off Rolleston, followed by Wilson who was caught off Lawson?s bowling after a rapid 12 including a trademark six. Unfortunately for WDBC Murray now had his eye in and had gained 25 runs, which included two sixes, before being well bowled by Rolleston, the score now standing at 92. It was left to Radcliffe to push the score along with four overs to go and after losing Twine, bowled by Rolleston for a duck, and Ben Neale, bowled Lloyd for 5, he was joined by Cleaver for the last two overs. With 29 extras the score at the end of the ENCC innings was 126 for 6, with Cleaver not out 5 and Radcliffe on an excellent 18 not out. The reply from WDBC suffered a setback with the first ball of the innings when Rolleston was well caught by Wilson off the bowling of Palmer. With the next 14 deliveries from Ben Neale and the talented Palmer being dot balls the pressure for runs mounted with Branfield falling for 1, caught and bowled by Palmer, and the opener Lloyd caught by Radcliffe off Burns for 10. A steady innings by Will Gabb was brought to an end with the score on 28 after he was caught and bowled by Burns for 14. Two more wickets fell quickly as the accurate Nest bowling troubled the batsmen, Kent being bowled by Wilson for 1 and Long bowled for a duck by Burns. WDBC then rallied until Pearce was stumped by Tim Neale for Burns? fourth victim, and Jack Gabb, who put on a lusty 20 including a huge six, was caught by Miller off Cleaver following another big hit. Hayward followed for a duck joined by Bolt and kept up the attack by adding another 18 runs before Bolt became Neale?s second stumping off Emery for 9, Lawson remained undefeated on 12, with WDBC?s total score at 73 all out falling short of the target. All the Nest bowlers had contributed but worthy of particular mention are Palmer with 2 for 5, and Burns with his 4 wicket haul.
