Active Alarms Senior Challenge Cup (Second Round) Tavistock 2nds 3 Old Sutts 0 THE game got off to a brisk and lively start but both sides managed to cancel each other out for a large part of the first half with good defensive play, despite some competitive and creative football. Tavistock came nearest to opening the score-line in the 35th minute when a long range volley ricocheted off the Old Sutts? crossbar and again two minutes later when a scorching shot from Andy Bacon brought a splendid save from the Old Sutts keeper. The start of the second half saw Tavistock shift up a gear, and within ten minutes substitute Martin Hancock delivered a perfect cross from the right wing into the path of Ben Palmer on the far post, who opened the scoring with a tasteful volley over the head of the keeper. With their confidence growing Tavistock now began to dominate the game. Despite Old Sutts? best efforts they failed to worry the Tavistock defence to any great extent and ten minutes later another fine cross from Hancock found Chris Short, who poked the ball through the crowded defence to make it 2-0. Nonetheless, Old Sutts were still full of running and seemed determined to get back into the game, but a twenty yard rocket from Neil Talliss with five minutes to go killed off any chance of a revival for the visitors. A good controlled performance from Tavistock that takes them through to the next round.
