MEMBERS of Gunnislake’s popular ‘Stitch and Bitch’ group knitted for 24 hours straight to raise funds for charity last week.
The group had pre-made twiddle mitts for patients with dementia and Alzheimers on the Hembury Ward at Derriford Hospital before the event and during the knitathon they created chain links, in keeping with the festive spirit, raising money for the ward.
The ladies sat in the Rising Sun pub from Saturday lunchtime until Sunday lunchtime and were joined by friends and strangers who joined in for some of the time.
Hilary Fairhurst said: ‘We had massive support. People came in to give support, money and knit — we had over 35 people come in over the 24 hours, beyond our group members. We had 571 knitted links at the end and the fewest knitters we had at any one point was seven.’
The group is still counting the funds made from the event but it is over the £200 mark so far.
