Okehampton Columbines 5
Tiverton White Eagles II 0
RIGHT from the start Okehampton dominated the play and kept the ball in Tiverton's half. Nifty short sharp passes put Tiverton on the back-foot but their skilful and determined defence made it hard for Okehampton to make that final break through.
Several balls passed the backline within inches of the goalmouth but the goal-line itself remained impenetrable.
The new rule allowing more flexibility from free hits was used increasingly during the game which raised the pace but any break-through by Tiverton was adroitly captured by the ever effective Jane Jones, Carol Taylor and Louise as halves or Abby 'Colton at right back.
Okehampton took advantage of its squad of 13 which gave up and coming players such as Amanda Sims and Eve Colton to show their paces.
Finally captain Jo Moppett was able to make her magic stick-work count and scored Okehampton's first goal.
At half time the team agreed to make more use of the wider field including passing back rather than just pushing forward into the melee.
This swiftly paid off with two goals in succession.
Kim Davey, who had a very good game, got one, another strike from her stick was caught on the rebound by Vivienne Weatherington who fed it to Jo Moppett.
Now comfortably three up the Okehampton side continued to use their neat passing to good effect.
A third goal by Jo Moppett was capped by a strong push from the edge of the circle by Jane Jones with the final tap by Alexandra Collins.
Next week Okehampton have their first league game which is away to Dartmouth.
