YET again Folley lost the toss for the Ordulph who again found themselves being put in to bat on a soft wicket. Despite this handicap and the loss of Hodges (10) the run rate was pushed along nicely at nearly five an over by some confident assured batting by Bridgewater and Makhija. Both batsmen looked ?set fair? for a big score until some indecisive calling resulted in the unfortunate run out of Bridgewater for 22. Not to be deterred, Makhija carried on piling on the runs with a confident array of shots to all parts of the ground, supported well by Westlake (14), M A Wheeler (14) and Witcher (14). Eventually Makhija fell to a good take from the St Stephens keeper just short of his century on 98, an innings to be remembered. A slight wag of the Ordulph tail resulted in the score being taken to an imposing 212 which was quite an achievement given the batting conditions. Pick of the St Stephens bowling was I Sleep who accounted for four wickets and a good long spell of bowling from Watson who took two wickets. In reply St Stephens never really got to grips with the run rate and any realistic prospect of reaching the target had all but evaporated by the 15th over. This could mainly be attributed to a superb spell of accurate seam bowling from Bridgewater who gave absolutely nothing away. As is often the way this put such pressure on the St Stephens batsmen that wickets started to fall to Folley, bowling from the other end as they tried to attack him. The prize wicket of St Stephens danger man Watson fell to Folley having been hit for six the previous ball. Bridgewater finished up with excellent figures of 1 for 20 off 12 and Folley with an equally good 4 for 22 off 12. With the win now a formality Westlake in his first game of the season made short work of the tail with a quality spell of nippy bowling, taking five wickets in little under 7 overs. Of the St Stephens batting only L Marsh managed to hang around for any time and finished up on 17 not out. This was an excellent all round team effort from the Ordulph with some good catches from Crowl, Witcher (2) and a superb diving catch from Bridgewater. In the field a mention must go to Freddie Wheeler whose athleticism was an inspiration to the team. Men of the match, Ordulph: N Makhija; St Stephens: L Marsh. Points: Ordulph 20, St Stephens 6.
