THE New Scorpion Band play the finest of British traditional music at Nicholls Hall, Lydford, on Saturday, February 17, at 7.30pm.

Performing traditional songs and dance tunes with a light-hearted style and appropriate acoustic instruments, the New Scorpion Band offer an impressive evening of quality music.

Five skilled musicians play 20 early instruments ranging from bassoon to hurdy-gurdy and pipes, tuba and flute.

All highly talented, they are Tim Laycock, Brian Gulland, Robin Jeffrey, Colin Thompson and Bob White.

Coming together from widely differing musical backgrounds between them they have a massive track record that spans music and composition for theatre and television, folk-rock and early music.

The original Scorpion Band was formed after the Napoleonic wars in Dorset using instruments from the disbanded army.

The New Scorpion Band maintains the fine tradition of performing challenging music established by their illustrious namesakes.
