THE Ten Tors Orchestra and the University of Plymouth Choral Society will combine under the musical direction of Simon Ible to perform a summer concert at St Andrew?s Church, Plymouth on Saturday, June 7 at 7.30pm.

The programme is titled Sea, Sailors and Kings.

The sea is represented through Mendelssohn?s Overture, The Hebrides and Elgar?s song cycle, Sea Pictures. Handel composed his Coronation Anthem The King Shall Rejoice for George II and Elgar?s Pomp and Circumstance March No 4 adds to the majesty of the occasion.

There is only one possible sailor imaginable for a Plymouth event, Sir Francis Drake.

Tavistock composer Andrew Wilson?s Drake?s Drum was first performed at Buckland Abbey in 2001. It is scored for mezzo-soprano, choir, organ and string orchestra.

The mezzo-soprano Louise Mott is the soloist for the Sea Pictures and Drake?s Drum.

Louise was selected as the Who?s Hot in Opera Now magazine in December 2000 and has since gone on to sing with the English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and is currently singing the role of Fidalma in Opera North?s production of Cimarosa?s The secret Marriage.

Louise has also broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of London Sinfonietta, the Halle Orchestra and the Kings Consort.
