AN epic night — that was how the 24-hour music marathon in Bere Ferrers was described last weekend — with more than 40 acts taking to the stage.
More than £3,000 was raised at the event, which will be split between the fund to raise money for a night landing site for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) in Bere Alston and DAA itself.
Landlady of the Olde Plough Inn where the music marathon was held, Sarah Williams, said it was incredible the way the community came together to help put on and support such an amazing event.
‘There was a hard core of 20 people who stayed all night and I served up breakfast for them in the morning,’ said Sarah. ‘We had a good crowd throughout the 24 hours and many of the acts came back after their sets to support the event.’
Among the acts were Mad Dog Mcrea, Geoff and Seth Lakeman and Sound of the Sirens. There was also a raffle of 24 superb prizes.
Sarah said fundraising had now shut for the landing site as all the money was in place and work would start to install the floodlighting and associated equipment on February 1.
In an article last week Cllr Brian Lamb from Bere Ferrers Parish Council, who took the project on board, said the response from the parish and local organosations to raise the £8,000 needed was overwhelming.
