NEXT Month the Oxfam Bookshop will start to sell a range of quality second hand CDs and DVDs and is now seeking donations to build up the stock for sale.
The shop intends to specialise in selling classical, jazz, blues, folk etc rather than popular music CDs and a large classical music donation has already been received by a regular donor to Oxfam.
All types of music are still welcome to be donated however, as CDs and vinyl will continue to be sold from the Oxfam shop in West Street as well.
Book shop manager Val Sharpe said: 'Starting to sell a range of quality music and DVDs is really exciting for us.
'The shop has established itself really well in the two years it has been open as a book shop, and receives lots of compliments and regular customers and donors.
'The music will now help even more to raise money for Oxfam and increase the contribution this shop can make to Oxfam's work.
'The current Oxfam dedicated appeal is to help the refugee crisis in Syria, and everyone working in the Oxfam shops in Tavistock wants to feel they are doing all they can to help Oxfam to help others in such desperate situations.
'It is a sobering reminder to us of just how fortunate, safe and healthy we are.'
The severity of the Syria crisis has encouraged Oxfam to designate it as top priority for the whole organisation.
Every day 5,000 Syrians risk their lives to cross the border — mainly to Jordan and Lebanon. The conflict has forced five-million Syrians to flee their homes.
In addition to donations, anyone can make cash donations to the Refugee Crisis in Syria Appeal in both Oxfam shops in Tavistock.
Anyone interested in music and interested in volunteering at the shop to help develop the new music area either by pop in or by call 01822 613901.
