AN EXCITING night of music and comedy is set to wow audiences at The Wharf in Tavistock this Saturday, to launch a new arts event.

The idea for the Electric Eclectic Collective is to promote the arts in all its forms — from music, dance and comedy to painting, sculpture, photography and writing.

Electric Eclectic Collective is the brainchild of Rachel Fairfax, who is planning more events in June and autumn.

Saturday's launch night will be headlined by Plymouth-based Irish band Mad Dog Mcrea, who already have an enthusiastic following in the area, regularly selling out their concerts at The Wharf.

They will be supported by The Sound of Sirens, a three-piece girl band from Devon who are really starting to get themselves noticed with their amazing harmonies, unique songs and great twists to the few covers they do perform.

The evening will be started off by local musician and vocalist Adelia, who has performed at the Acoustic Café in Tavistock, and will be compered by comedienne Jackie Juno.

The event starts with a book signing by new author Daisy Dawes, who will be signing her debut book, Get Ahead Fred. It has been getting rave reviews and has sold out on Amazon three times already.

Daisy has worked as a model maker for Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, children's TV show Pingu and Aardman's Rex the Runt. She is also a fully qualified journalist and was an editor on the Liverpool Echo for many years. She still writes for the group as a freelance writer.

Rachel said: 'Daisy has been doing readings and book signings at various Waterstones book stores around the country and it is great that she is coming to Tavistock.

'The idea is that people can bring along their children at 6pm, meet Fred and design a hat for him! Daisy will be signing books and doing a reading at 6.30pm — this will wrap up about 7.15pm with the live music ticket-only evening starting at 8pm.'

Tickets, £8 in advance and £10 on the night, are available from The Wharf Box Office on 01822 611166.
